solvent

solvent
| It doesn't have the ability to dissolve resin, however, its solvent strength and drying properties can be adjusted through mixing with genuine solvent.

Diluent
| By itself, it doesn't have the ability to dissolve resins, however, it is added as a bulking agent for adjusting the viscosity of paints to an appropriate level.
