Organic solvent
Thinners comprise three types: genuine solvent, latent solvent, and diluent.
Genuine
solvent
| This has the capacity to dissolve resins, which form the skeleton of coating film.
|
Latent
solvent
| It doesn't have the ability to dissolve resin, however, its solvent strength and drying properties can be adjusted through mixing with genuine solvent.
|
Diluent
| By itself, it doesn't have the ability to dissolve resins, however, it is added as a bulking agent for adjusting the viscosity of paints to an appropriate level.
